Prokop leads the way for Ford Fiesta S2000 crews in Germany
Tuesday, 24 August 2010 08:38

An action packed ADAC Rallye Deutschland saw Martin Prokop fight a hotly contested battle for first place in the S-WRC - eventually missing out on the top spot by just 4.7 seconds.

Six Ford Fiesta S2000 crews were present in Germany, with three of the new generation rally cars fighting for S-WRC honours.  Following Prokop's second place finish, Xevi Pons claimed fifth overall with Bernardo Sousa just behind in seventh.  All the Ford Fiesta S2000 crews made it to the end of the 405km event.

This is the sixth time a Ford Fiesta S2000 has achieved a podium finish in the 2010 S-WRC.  Pons retains the lead at the head of the S-WRC championship standings, but after struggling to emulate his early season pace throughout the event his lead has now been reduced to 13 points.

Six Ford Fiesta Super 2000 crews will make their way to Germany next week for the seventh round of the Super 2000 World Rally Championship (S-WRC).

The Ford Fiesta S2000 has achieved podium finishes in five of the six rounds of the S-WRC so far and Spanish driver, Xevi Pons continues to lead the championship by 18 points. Fellow Ford Fiesta S2000 driver, Martin Prokop currently holds third position with Jari Ketomaa just two points behind, in fourth position.

After missing the previous round in Finland, Pons will rejoin the championship in Germany to try and hold onto his 18 point lead in the S-WRC championship. This will be the sixth time that Pons has contested Rally Deutschland and in 2005's event he finished ninth overall. The Spanish driver's extensive experience of the rally should hold him in good stead for a solid points finish next week.

Prokop leads the way for Ford Fiesta crews in Finland
Monday, 09 August 2010 00:00

An action packed Neste Oil Rally Finland saw six of the eight Ford Fiesta S2000 crews make it safely to the end of the fastest event on the Super World Rally Championship (S-WRC) calendar.

Eight Ford Fiesta crews were present in Finland, with four fighting for S-WRC honours. Martin Prokop led the way in the S-WRC class and close on his tail for the majority of the rally was Finnish driver, Janne Tuohino, who finished sixth in the S-WRC.

Jari Ketomaa was retired on Saturday morning, putting an end to the Finn's hopes for a hat-trick in the support championship in Finland. Ketomaa's retirement also means that he drops into fourth position in the S-WRC overall standings table behind Martin Prokop who is now third. Xevi Pons maintains his lead in the S-WRC field after the championship's opening six rounds.

Until this event, the Ford Fiesta S2000 had achieved podium finishes at every S-WRC round but it is hoped that the Fiesta S2000 will return to its winning ways when it joins the FIA World Rally Championship for Rally Deutschland next month.
